April 14, 2026 (Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) will hold a by-election for President on May 27, 2026. The successful candidate will hold the office until the conclusion of NTI Presidential election in December 2028.
The nomination period is now open, as of 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, and closes Tuesday, April 21 at 5 p.m. local time.
Nomination forms to nominate an Inuk as a Candidate for election of President of NTI are available from the Chief Returning Office, Joe Adla Kunuk, Community Liaison Officers, Ayaya Marketing Communications or from NTI’s website.
Eligible candidates must be 16 years of age or older as of May 27, 2026, and be enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement or eligible to enrol.
Candidates must file their complete nomination papers with the Chief Returning Officers no later than April 21 at 5 p.m. local time. Candidates are responsible for ensuring that nomination papers are files in accordance with NTI’s Election Rules and Procedures and are files within the deadline. If nomination papers are not received by the deadline, a potentially candidate will not be permitted to run as a candidate in the NTI elections.
A criminal record check within the past three months is mandatory. Potential candidates are encouraged to start this process with the RCMP right away.
