(March 31, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated (NTI) President Paul Irngaut announced that Joe Adla Kunuk, in collaboration with Ayaya Marketing & Communications, has been appointed as the Chief Returning Officer (CRO) for the upcoming NTI By-Election for President, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
The nomination period for this election will be held from Wednesday, April 15 to Tuesday, April 21, 2026. To be eligible to run or vote, individuals must be Canadian citizens, at least 16 years old as of May 27, 2026, and enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement. Once the nomination period begins, nomination packages will be available from the CRO, Community Liaison Officers, and through the NTI website.
It is the responsibility of each candidate to ensure that completed nomination documents, including a criminal record check, are submitted to the CRO by the required deadline. Nomination papers received after the deadline will not be accepted, and the individual will not be eligible to participate in the May 2026 By-Election. Candidates may formally withdraw their nomination up until Friday, April 24, 2026.
Voters participating in the NTI Election for President will be able to cast their ballots using one of five available voting options. These methods include advance voting on May 20, 2026, mobile polls, proxy voting, mail-in ballots, or voting in person on election day, May 27, 2026.
